Disciplines/Classes offered at Dance Impressions by Ryan

 Preschool~ Nursery Ballet and Tap

This fun filled ballet, pre-jazz & pre-tap combo has preschoolers (age 3 - 5 years) developing independence. Children participate in a dance curriculum designed to develop awareness, balance & control while exercising their imaginations. This is the youngest class to perform at the year end recital every year.

Our Preschool Dancers will be starring in our year end recital in May to showcase all they have accomplished!!

Pre-Beginner~ Primary/Junior 1  Ballet, Pre-Jazz & Tap

Combination classes continue for this 5-7 year old age group with dynamic movements teaching  coordination, posture, and performance skills. Ballet, pre-tap & pre-jazz skills are taught as dancers learn to work together as an amazing team of individuals.

Dance Impressions students at these levels and up (age 7 & older) have a minimum of 1 technical ballet class per week within their desired dance program.  Students wishing to perform ballet on stage can enroll in the Lyrical/Ballet Variations class as well as their structured syllabus ballet class.

Enrolling in jazz, ballet & tap is recommended. Tap & Jazz do more than just compliment each other; they are taught from a syllabus structured for dancers who are taking both.

The more disciplines a student enrolls in, the more instructional time he/she receives.  Students receiving more instructional time per week generally advance through the levels faster and perform at a higher level than those who receive less.

Dance Impressions regular classes run from the beginning of Sept. until mid May. Some more experienced dancers may choose to train year round with amazing performance, training and exam opportunities.

Ballet

Ballet is a classical art form, which explores the beauty of dance and movement.  Our dancers develop balance, poise, flexibility, strength, discipline and confidence in a range of classes from beginner to advance.  Ballet is the foundation for excelling in other dance forms and is mandatory class for all of our dancers. Our dancers are trained in the Cecchetti Method of ballet which is a style of classical, theatrical dance based on the teachings of the great Italian ballet master Enrico Cecchetti (1850 - 1928).

"The (Cecchetti) system is professional, logical and its technical demands are totally revealing. (its) ports de bras (arm movements) are known far and wide for their simplicity, purity of line and their sheer beauty."

En Pointe

This is a class available to students at the instructor’s discretion due to the difficulty and strength required for success and health.  A physician’s consultation and certificate of recommendation is encouraged.

Jazz

Jazz is a powerful and dynamic style of dance which improves overall coordination and flexibility.  In this fast-paced, challenging and fun environment, dancers learn technique as well as choreography set to upbeat music.

Tap

Our Tap dancers enjoy this dynamic and fun way to develop coordination, balance, agility and a sense of timing and rhythm. Training as a tap dancer develops the communication between the brain, legs, and feet. This ability is key to learning just about every other form of dance…especially those where fast footwork, timing and coordination are used!

Lyrical

Lyrical dancing is story telling through technique and emotion by combining Ballet and Jazz with musical interpretation. Dancers express mood and sentiment through facial expressions and body dynamics.  Lyrical dance requires a great deal of technique, as well as strength, to hold body positions, and flexibility is fundamental for extensions.

Modern

Modern dance  is designed to develop our dancers through mind, body and spirit to be an expressive communicator through movement. Structured technical exercises that condition the body for strength, coordination and flexibility are developed. Physical activities which focus on the aspects of space, time, shape, and movement dynamics are explored through individual work as well as group participation.

Competitive Hip-Hop

We like to see our dancers achieve a higher level of technique in the other disciplines of dance before entering competitive Hip-Hop.  This ensures that a strong foundation of posture and technique is instilled in our dancers first.  These traits can be diminished if serious Hip-Hop training begins too early.
